Was the Jerry Lewis Approach Right?
“Jerry Lewis”- the name itself is enough to evoke an air of superiority and benevolence. Over his decades-long stint on the ‘Jerry Lewis Telethon’, this media mogul has raised millions of dollars for the cause that he dedicated his entire life to- Muscular Dystrophy.

Over the years that Jerry has been associated with the telethon, he has gained both immense applaud, as well as criticism for the methods that he employed to raise money for the cause. With the 2011 telethon creating a storm, over the fact that Jerry was not apart of the drive, all the questions that were initially hushed down are now being voiced out loud.
The biggest objection that Jerry’s critics had against him was that he used young and innocent children as an object of sympathy, instead of respectful entities who needed help.
While his approach of parading young children on wheelchairs definitely managed to melt the hearts of millions and serve the purpose that the telethon was dedicated to, it raised a question of how morally correct the approach was.
At that time, it was thought that Jerry’s presence was the reason why people contributed to the cause with open hearts. However, with the cash that flooded in this year, despite Jerry’s infamous absence from the telethon, it became clear that he was not the reason people were contributing, and maybe if there had been anyone else in his place, the telethon would have been just as successful.
This puts Jerry in an awkward spot, and when questioned about it, his brash answers on the lines of “It’s none of your business”, only make things worse. Jerry is also being rebuked for not having been able to do what he has been promising for years, which is finding a cure for MD.
To that, he says that it still remains the single thing that he wishes to do before he dies, and he will make sure it happens. While we wait and watch to see if that will happen, you can get a Jerry Lewis Telethon download to see the man in action.
