He has single handedly spearheaded the annual Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon, which has raised more than $1.4 billion, since 1960.

Lewis, besides being the champion of the cause for Muscular Dystrophy, is undoubtedly one of the best comedians in the industry. He has won the hearts of millions of Americans through his comedy. In addition he has helped thousands of people by raising funds and awareness for those suffering from muscular dystrophy.

The Jerry Lewis Telethon is an annual event hosted by Jerry Lewis himself. The event which is held every year on the Labor Day weekend is aimed at spreading awareness and raising funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The Jerry Lewis Telethon starts every year on the evening of the Sunday preceding the Labor Day. The event is telecast across America by approximately 190 television stations that telecast a live coverage of this 21 hour event. The networks participating in the event are together known as the Love Network. Since the inception of the telethon in 1960’s, 40 telethons have been held so far out of which 23 have been held in Las Vegas.
